1) Clown and (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner – Playful Partners in Solo Improvisation

What? An intensive two-day workshop exploring the connections between clown and (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner (IwIP).

Aimed for: Anyone interested in solo clown performance, IwIP, solo improvisation, and performative well-being.

Goals: Creative play! We aim for insights into IwIP through clown, and insights into clown through IwIP.

Eligibility: You have participated in an introductory IwIP course. No previous clown experience is necessary. Preference will be given to folks who have been practicing IwIP in the past two years. Sign up is first come, first serve!

Teacher: Alexander Komlosi, MFA, PhD

Description: Clown and IwIP are connected through their forms and their playful qualities. Both present the solo performer with the opportunity to create a playful situation with an audience. What is important to both?

– child-like dramatic play drawing on your unique personality- a connected, sensitive, energized psychosom

– a readiness to risk giving and receiving spontaneous offers

– a conscious, aware spontaneity

In this workshop, we will begin to explore the connections between clown and IwIP, and the dramatic differences. The questions we will ask and reply to together include:

– How can the clown state – its naïveté, vulnerability, its no holds barred, anarchic playfulness – inspire and transform IwIP?

– How can IwIP’s dynamic of revealing different and latent aspects of our personality and of our performing help uncover new sides to our clowns and the clown state?

– How might IwIP-inspired solo improvisation enable us to create solo clown performance?

– What can an IwIPing clown reveal about our performative well-being?

– What happens when we “break the rules” of IwIP and clown? What new forms, what new creatures will emerge?

Language: Alex will teach in English, but you are welcome to use any language while you perform and practice.
